Originally, the name Lama originated from Ahlama Rowa or Para. There is disagreement over the naming of the Lama, located in the Matamuhuri river basin. According to some, the word lama means the lower side or lower region. It is the regional word of Chittagong.
The area is named Lama because it is located in the downstream area of Matamuhuri river. According to tribal legends, a noble Marma tribe called Ahlama (which means supreme beauty) lived in Lamamukh area. Because of its financial affluence and influence at that time, the place was named Ahlama Roa or Para. Later, places such as Lama Canal, Lama Bazar, Mouza etc. were also named after him.
